Established in 1862, Cafe du Monde can be found in the historic French Market of New Orleans. This iconic coffee stand is known for its round-the-clock operation, closing only on Christmas Day and during hurricanes. The menu at Cafe du Monde features traditional offerings such as dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, along with decadent Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee can be served Black or Au Lait, which is a combination of coffee and hot milk. The Beignets, square French-style doughnuts covered in powdered sugar, are a must-try when visiting the cafe. In 1988, Iced Coffee was added to the menu, along with soft drinks.

The French Quarter, where Cafe du Monde is located, showcases a mix of architectural styles that reflect the influence of various countries that once ruled Louisiana. Initially built by the Spanish in 1771, the French Market building was destroyed by a hurricane in 1812. The current building, which houses Cafe du Monde, was constructed in 1813 and was originally known as The Butcher’s Hall. In the 1930s, the Works Progress Administration renovated and expanded upon the French Market buildings. Today, the French Market consists of seven buildings, with Cafe du Monde at one end and the Farmers and Flea Market sheds at the other.
